Call For Presentations and Papers
mtec2011 – hosted by the Soundhouse Music Alliance – is an innovative conference focussing on the use of technology in music education. Following on from the success of the 2009 conference in Melbourne, the mtec2011 organising committee invites music educators from the primary, secondary and tertiary sectors to submit an application to present a workshop or paper presentation at the conference in 2011.
Session Proposals
Proposed sessions are encouraged to include music technology and have a focus on music education outcomes and pedagogy.
Sessions may include:
- hands-on “how-to” instruction in a computer lab
- presentation of papers on any aspect of music technology in education
- demonstration of classroom music lessons incorporating technology
- use of technology in the instrumental/vocal teaching studio
- use of technology in student performance
- examples of best practise
Session Types and Lengths
Based on the facilities and available equipment at mtec2011, 3 types of sessions will be possible.
- Hands-on Lab
Workshops in either a PC or Mac lab (maximum of 2 participants each computer). All labs will include MIDI keyboards for participants, plus a data projector and amplification for the presenter. Some labs will also have audio interfaces and microphones. Sessions can include training in software and hands-on demonstration of class-based projects.
- Classroom Music Room
Music classroom provided with interactive whiteboard (Smartboard), data projector and amplification, as well as a range of classroom musical instruments (tuned and untuned percussion, piano). Sessions could include examples of units of work, hands-on music making or the delivery of academic papers.
- Performance Room
Large performance room which can cater for sessions involving school ensembles and choirs. A data projector and amplification will be provided for the presenter. Sessions may focus on using technology to record, rehearse or perform. Bring (or make!) your own ensemble.
Session Lengths
The conference timetable will cater for 3 session lengths:
- 40 mins
- 90 mins
- a double 90-minute session (half-day session)
Submission Procedure and Deadline for Proposals
Submission procedure
Please submit the following using our online form
- A short outline (maximum 250 words) of the session. Multiple session proposals are welcome
- Indicate whether you are proposing a hands-on lab session, a classroom session or a performance room session (descriptions above)
- Indicate which software applications and operating system you will require
- List your hardware and equipment requirements, if any (ie. MIDI keyboards, microphones, audio interface, amp, untuned or tuned percussion, piano)

Deadline for proposals
Due date for proposals: Friday 27 August, 2010
Successful applicants will be notified no later than Friday 8 October, 2010
Presenter Terms
All presenters must be registered delegates of mtec2011. In lieu of payment for presenting, presenters will receive generous registration discounts as follows:
- Full registration (3 days, plus conference dinner) $150 discount: Super Early Bird -$400 (usually $550), Early Bird - $450 (usually $600), Standard - $550 (usually $700)
- Day rate - $175 (usually $280). Conference dinner optional extra - $55 (usually $110)
2. Expenses
Presenters will be required to cover their own expenses – including travel, accommodation and any meals that are not included in the registration.

Presenter Notes
All presenters will be required to provide session notes for conference delegates approximately six weeks before the conference takes place (exact due date to be advised).
